Roadblocks

Retrieve, place, and recover cones and barriers to slow traffic, close roads, and secure scenes safely.

Roadblocks help you control traffic around collisions, active scenes, hazards, and temporary closures. Retrieve cones and barriers from a patrol vehicle, carry them into position, and recover them when the scene is clear.

Roadblocks Control Traffic

Roadblocks are more than visual scene dressing. Every deployed object creates a virtual speed zone based on its type and changes how nearby AI traffic behaves:

  • Traffic cones: Nearby AI drivers significantly reduce their speed as they pass, making cones useful for warning traffic, protecting a scene, or temporarily controlling a lane.
  • Police cones: The illuminated blue and red variants provide the same traffic-slowing effect with a more visible police warning.
  • Barriers: Larger barriers completely stop the flow of traffic in and around their position, making them useful for blocking a road or creating a full closure.

Choose the least restrictive option that safely protects the scene. Use cones when traffic can continue slowly, and barriers when vehicles must not proceed.

Choosing a Roadblock

Stop your patrol vehicle somewhere safe, open its trunk, and select Roadblocks. The Roadblock Menu lists the equipment available for you to carry into position:

Shortcut Roadblock Best Used For
1 Spike Strips (shown as Spike Sticks in the menu) Stopping a fleeing vehicle by puncturing its tyres.
2 Traffic Cone Slowing traffic near a scene or temporary lane restriction.
3 Blue Police Cone Slowing traffic with an illuminated blue police warning.
4 Red Police Cone Slowing traffic with an illuminated red police warning.
5 Blue Barrier Stopping traffic and restricting access to part of a road.
6 Road Closed Barrier Clearly marking and enforcing a complete road closure.

Carrying and Placing Roadblocks

After selecting an item, your officer takes it from the trunk and carries it. Move to the exact position where the roadblock should begin, face the direction you want to place it, and press H when the Place Roadblock prompt appears.

The roadblock is placed on the ground in front of you. If you change your mind before placing it, return to the open patrol-vehicle trunk and follow the same H prompt to put the carried item back.

Positioning Equipment Safely

  • Park your patrol vehicle defensively and use emergency lighting before stepping into live traffic.
  • Watch approaching vehicles while carrying equipment and avoid turning your back on moving traffic.
  • Place cones far enough before a hazard to give drivers time to slow down.
  • Coordinate barriers with other officers so you do not unexpectedly trap traffic or block an emergency route.
  • Leave yourself a safe path away from the roadway after placing the equipment.
  • Use Road Flares when a scene needs additional advance warning.

Picking Up and Clearing Equipment

When the scene is clear, approach each deployed roadblock and press E at the Pick Up prompt. Your officer carries the item again so you can reposition it or return it to the patrol vehicle.

Carry recovered cones and barriers back to the open trunk and press H at the displayed prompt to stow them. Once all equipment has been removed, its traffic-control effect ends and normal traffic can resume.

Spike Strips

Spike strips are obtained from the same Roadblocks menu using option 1. Their pursuit positioning, two-lane deployment, tyre effects, and safety considerations require more care than ordinary cones and barriers.
