Ranks & Progression

How you rank up through duty time and what each rank unlocks.

As you spend time on duty you'll climb the ranks within your department. Ranking up isn't just a number next to your name — it unlocks new uniforms, equipment, and vehicles, and it's the key to unlocking department transfers down the line.

The Progression Path

Ranking up doesn't just play out inside a single department — it's the first step of a much larger journey across the force. The flow below maps out that full path: you begin in the LSPD, and each time you max out at Rank 8 you unlock a transfer to the next stage, all the way through to Open Role.

How You Rank Up

Each department has its own rank ladder, running from Rank 1 up to Rank 8. You progress through the ranks by accumulating duty hours — the more time you spend actively serving, the higher you climb. Your rank is tracked separately for each department.

Duty Hours Per Rank

The table below shows the total duty hours required to reach each rank within a department.

Rank Total Duty Hours
Rank 1 Default
Rank 2 1
Rank 3 3
Rank 4 6
Rank 5 10
Rank 6 15
Rank 7 21
Rank 8 28

What Ranks Unlock

Climbing the ranks rewards you with access to more of your department's arsenal — additional uniforms, equipment, and vehicles become available as you progress. There's always something new to work towards at every level.

You can check the rank required for specific unlocks — such as weapons and vehicles — directly in their respective menus, which display the rank needed to use each one. Once you've reached that rank, head back to the station and put your new, hard-earned unlocks to use.

Rank 8: Transfer Eligibility

Reaching Rank 8 — the top of a department's rank ladder — is the milestone that makes you eligible to transfer to another department. This is the foundation of the progression path that eventually leads to Open Role. To learn how transfers work and how to unlock Open Role, head to the Department Transfers guide.
