Speed Radar

Set up the front and rear antennas, monitor traffic, lock speeding vehicles, and run captured plates.

The Speed Radar helps you monitor traffic from your patrol car, identify speeding vehicles, and run captured registration plates without leaving the driver's seat.

Opening the Speed Radar

To use the radar, you must be on duty and sitting in the driver's seat of a patrol car. Press F9 to open the display. Both antennas begin transmitting immediately so you can start monitoring traffic straight away.

If the display is already open but does not have your cursor, press F9 again to focus it. Select the close button on the panel when you're finished; the radar is also stowed automatically when you leave the vehicle.

Reading the Display

The radar has separate rows for the front and rear antennas. Each row reports the traffic detected by that antenna:

  • Speed: The current speed of the vehicle inside the antenna beam
  • Direction: Whether the vehicle is coming towards you or moving away
  • Plate: The vehicle's registration plate after it remains inside the beam for around one second
  • Lock: The captured speed when a vehicle reaches your configured violation speed

Antenna Modes

The front antenna scans the road ahead of your patrol car, while the rear antenna scans behind it. Each antenna can be configured independently with two lane modes:

  • SAME Lane: Points the antenna straight ahead or behind, following the lane your patrol car occupies
  • OPP Lane: Angles the antenna across the road to monitor traffic travelling in the opposite lane

Select SAME or OPP on either antenna row to change its aim. Select XMIT to switch that antenna off or back on without affecting the other one.

Setting a Violation Speed

The Violation Speed determines when the radar automatically locks a reading. Enter a value between 20 and 200 MPH and confirm it with the tick button. The default is 65 MPH.

When a target reaches or exceeds that speed, the relevant antenna sounds an alert and freezes the vehicle's speed and plate. A locked antenna stops scanning new traffic until you select its illuminated Lock control to clear the reading.

Running a Plate

A vehicle must remain in the antenna beam briefly before its plate resolves. Once the plate appears, select the lookup control beside it to open the law enforcement database with the registration already entered.

From there you can review the registered owner, vehicle flags, and any other information held against the registration before deciding whether to initiate a traffic stop.
